Rock Flowers - Columbines
Rock Flowers - Columbines

I have been fascinated by what I call “Rock Flowers” for some time. My first glimpse of this tiny miracle was when we lived in Colorado. The setting was Columbines that were growing out of stone.  I was inspired by their tenacity. Through the years, we have witnessed this same phenomenon in other places, in other flowers and plants. Day by day, these plants have to grab on by the roots and take hold to grow and thrive from a rock.

They have to soak up the sun, and the rain, and endure the elements. But they are surviving, actually thriving, in the roughest terrain and the most difficult environments. They have a unique beauty that most people will fail to notice. They’ll most likely walk right by without even seeing how strong these plants are or how they had to struggle to survive.

We come from all walks of life. Our paths are different from one another, and the journey set before us is unique. We often have to “sink our roots” into rough terrain to survive. We must endure the scorching sun, winds of adversity, and the rains of heartache. But miracles do occur if we are tenacious and place our faith in the Rock of Ages.

My prayer for you: soak up the Son, let the rain of God’s presence heal you, and you’ll grow, change, and thrive. Let Him wash over you, really concentrate on the feel of His love, shower you with His care, grace, and tender touch. There is something about rain that has healing power. It can bring solace to the soul. I’ve found some of my greatest peace on rainy days. Sometimes His presence is so near, His Spirit seems to fall tenderly, like mercy, upon my head and shoulders.

I love to walk in the rain, no umbrella, no coat…and feel the rain misting my face. I envision God’s gentle touch, comfort, and love as I walk. I give Him my cares, my praises, and sink my roots in the faith that He gives, that He is with me. I usually have some good Christian music in my earbuds, and those lyrics speak of His Word, encouraging me to be firmly planted to share Jesus with the world. I am a Rock Flower; clinging, growing, soaking up the Son, and thriving because of His tender reign and care. Are you?
