"For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations (NIV)." Isaiah 61:11

This is how the wildflowers grow here,

The clouds have to be pushed aside to make room;

The sky opens up above them,

As they adore, Jesus, their Groom.

Oh, the fields come alive,

Like a blushing bride on her wedding day.

And the summer months explode

Like a flowering, colorful bouquet.

If you were to take their measure,

They stand between three and seven feet tall.

But if you increment them by their beauty,

They’d create an unending crown to the Lord of All.

I’ve been amazed since coming to Wisconsin at how the wildflowers grow. I’ve loved them, everywhere that we have lived, but here, they rise and bloom—in abundance. Their life, growth, and vibrancy cannot be contained. Their colors and variety are unparalleled. And their height is unlike anything I’ve witnessed before.

It occurred to me that they radiate God’s glory, and that they are one measure of His love, goodness, grace, and faithfulness to us. The windflowers simply come to life in their perfect season. They do what they are put here to do: be lovely, provide pollen for the bees and butterflies, and draw our eye to their Creator.

Is your life like a wildflower? Do God (and others) see incremental changes in your heart? In your attitudes? Are you rising to bloom? Have you had to move anything out of your way to get closer to Jesus? Are you alive to give Jesus glory?

What if Jesus looked down from heaven,

And saw His children just like this?

What if we looked like a wildflower garden,

Radiating His sweet fragrance, that could not be dismissed?

Oh, may we come alive, dear Father,

For one day, we’ll be as Your blushing bride.

Oh God, as You gather us together,

We’ll worship You only, side by side.

Might all of God’s children look like a wildflower garden around the throne of grace? Oh, how that thought creates a beautiful picture in my mind. Life, vibrancy, and the testimony of our bloom—will surely make the loveliest of bouquets to present to our King. The sky will surely open to make room for such a crown of adoration.

Meditate with the Lord: Please Look Up and Read Psalm 1, John 15:5, and Hosea 10:12

Dear Lord, how the wildflowers grow is a thing of beauty. Each one is unique yet is made more beautiful beside the next. So too are we as His kids. For it is in this uniting that each one’s gifts and abilities are highlighted. It is in coming together that we give off the sweet aroma of the garden fair unto You, O Lord, our Creator and King! Amen.
