The Sunset Lilies

There is a patch of lilies growing,
Near my favorite Oak,
Thriving in its shaded limbs,
Protected by its cloak.
I’ve watched them shoot up from the earth,
And from this garden, they grow.
Man did not plant them,
So maybe the birds did sow….
But as I’ve photographed them,
From bud to open flowers,
I discovered them one evening,
Kissed by the sunsets' lovely hour.
In the glow of dusk approaching,
Their beauty caught my eye,
As I was drawn to the glory of Jesus,
I caught my breath in a sigh.
How wonderful You are, Lord,
That You created these things for us to see.
We can only stand and praise You,
And marvel at Your majesty.
"Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass in the field—which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow—then how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? (TLV)” Luke 12: 27 & 28
Lord, thank You for the beauty of creation. Thank You for every perfect sunset that illuminates every perfect flower. Help us to take the time to notice how You clothe the lilies of the field, and let us be reminded that Your care for us is more tender, loving, and infinite than we can ever know or appreciate. I'm marveling at Your majesty, Amen.
