Looking at the Sun

From the time we were children, we were told not to look directly into the sun. Because ultra violet rays are present within this glowing orb, we are taught early, to not hold our gaze for too long. But I know myself, if it’s a particularly beautiful sunrise or sunset, I sometimes have to remind myself of this truth, in order to protect my vision.
Yet, as I was thinking of following Jesus, it’s by looking at the Son, keeping our eyes fixed on our Lord, that we experience peace, and are drawn into worship. And this type of focus, helps us know Him more keenly. For instance, in the well-known passage about the “loaves and fishes” ... did you ever notice these words? And He took the 5 loaves and 2 fish and “looking up into heaven,” He blessed and broke it and gave it, to the disciples. (Mark 6:30-44) You see, Jesus, knows this secret too! That when we look into the eyes of our Savior, we are strengthened, sustained, and saved.
In Hebrews 12:2, we’re told to “fix our eyes on Jesus” because He is the “Author and Perfector (or finisher) of our faith.”

So if you’re out in the sun—wear sunglasses; protect your eyesight. It’s a precious gift that allows us to see God’s beauty and majesty. But always look toward the Son, the One who blesses our lives, and multiplies acts of love. For as we bring our requests, petitions, and praise (with thanksgiving), He fills us with hope.
The Father’s eyes are upon you and His love reigns down to bring peace, joy and strength—for every moment of every day. Looking at the Son, means that the things (problems, fears, issues) look a little less large. For the One who fed 5000 from such a small boy’s lunch fare, can take care of us, from sunrise to sunset, and for every day between now and His return. That’s enough to keep my spirit lifted; how about you?
