Frozen ice crystals
Frozen ice crystals

Dear Lord, I thank You for the Winter season and the beauty You design within these three months. Somehow to my soul, You leave etchings—upon windows, hanging from limbs and rooftops, or clinging to every surface of the earth. These shapes are, to me, spectacular. For in them is a holy glistening that seems to flow directly from Your hand.

Winter's Beauty
Winter's Beauty

In every frozen crystal,

I see You shaping something new.

In every icicle,

I see You forming,

Art, out of falling rain.

In every magical snowflake,

A wonderland is created,

On earth’s terrain.

But it is not an icy chill, I feel,

Instead, Your Spirit is made alive.

For the etchings,

That You are writing,

Is Your love,

Upon my heart,

—Even in this season,

Of Winter-tide.

Amen.

If you let God show you the wonders of Winter, He’ll turn this barren season into a bountiful treasure trove of artistry and etchings. They, in turn, will inscribe your soul with the message that He is present at all times. They will teach you to see ice, snow, and frozen things in a whole new light—one in which He takes all things—and makes them beautiful.

“He showers snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes. 17 He hurls His ice as fragments.” Psalm 147:16-17a NASB

Etchings of Winter are an example to our hearts that God works in the barren to give everything beauty in its season and within every space in our hearts.

What have you viewed as barren that God is bringing to mind now, to show you it’s part of His perfect design … to create a new heart, a new dream, or bring you to a new level of faith? Does this question inspire any change in your thinking, believing, or “doing” for His kingdom? Take a few minutes to jot your thoughts in a notebook or journal!
