“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’ 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, 'Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.' 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told (NIV).”
Bible Study Tip: Wherever angels speak in the Word, Listen up. Vital information will be given, and good tidings or warnings will follow.
And from Matthew 2:1-2 & 9-11: “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.’ … When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh (NKJV).”
Jesus arrived as a Babe in a Manger. He came humbly, without fanfare. He appeared to the poor, to shepherds in the field. He showed Himself to those who made room for Him. He was adored by angels and those who sought Him. While born in a lowly setting, He is a King Who laid His head in a feeding trough, not a palace bed. He was wrapped in simple swaddling clothes, not priestly weavings. He did so—so that we would understand He was willing to endure hardship. He did this to earn our trust. He did this to demonstrate that He is available to every age, race, and socioeconomic class. Jesus does not discriminate.

Though He was perfect and sinless, He entered the world through imperfect circumstances to show us that He would meet us right where we are. He came for those who recognize their need for a Savior. And He came to save us from our sins—with the view of the Cross always before Him. He came to love and be loved. He came to live within us, placing eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). And He came to be worshiped and treasured by those who call Him Lord, now and forever.
It’s Your Turn to Experience God as—the One Who was Prophesied and then Arrived.
Please Look Up & Read Numbers 24:15-17 and Isaiah 11:1-3.
2 Pause: I’m Listening, Lord, may Your Spirit speak into my heart!
How do these verses demonstrate the prophesy and fulfillment of Jesus’ arrival?
From God’s Heart:
Dear Child, I spoke through the prophets of old as a way of announcing to your heart that I would be sending My Son as a Babe into the world, to the earth. Jesus arrived in a little town called Bethlehem through a series of miraculous events. The first was that His conception was through the Holy Spirit. I used a young teen named Mary—who was pure and virtuous—to be His mother.
This was so that you could see My love for you—divinity wrapped in humanity. Jesus was perfect, yet willing to endure life from your point of view. I was willing to walk on dusty streets and care for the unlovely.
I was born in a manger, not a palace so that you would encounter Me as humble and approachable. I came for the poor, the weak, and those who would worship Me. I came to save the lost, those who desire and make room for Me. And I came to be Your Savior and be exalted within your heart and life. I’ve arrived, dear child; have you experienced Me as Your light?
Have you embraced My love for you? Have you cherished Me as the One about Whom prophesy has been made and fulfilled? I will be Your Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace if you—draw near. Ponder. Behold Me. And let My glory fill every space of your body, mind, and soul.
2 Pray:
How does the prophesy and arrival of Jesus teach you to treasure His Word? How do these draw you into His presence and encourage you to worship our Lord humbly? How do they help you encounter the Lord in Isaiah 9:6 in terms of Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace?
Describe how knowing God as the—the One Who was Prophesied, then Arrived—makes you feel loved.
