This is a quote displayed in our home. We see it as we move about, pass through our front door, or sit and visit with friends in our living room. It reminds me of the love that Doug and I share; I purchased it for one of our anniversaries. But I got to thinking that as I view it, I have often come to see it in different lights.

We look into the eyes of our moms as they hold us as infants. We look into the eyes of Teachers and Coaches, and we learn our first lessons. We look into our friends' eyes and learn to trust. And we see all kinds of things written in their depths. We know when we make someone happy and, conversely, when we have not met expectations. We know when we are met with celebration, delight, anger, or sorrow.

Our eyes can convey so much. I loved this idea of Home. It conjures up the thought of love to me. There is nothing like the feelings communicated by an expression when no words are needed but when volumes are transmitted between two hearts. Sometimes, we are blessed to feel that with friends or family members.

But today, I was struck by the thought that as I look at God’s creation, I see a version of our eternal home. As I see God write His majesty here on earth, I can only imagine what heaven must hold. But I know He will hold the gaze of each of His children with such love that nothing around us will matter; His face may be all we see.

And I was thinking of how the Lord looks at us. Our home is with Him, so as He views us with love, we are already secure in His presence. We need not fear not meeting His expectations—we know we cannot. We cannot even fathom the depth of His affection for us. Yet He delights in each of us so much that He sent Jesus to take our place.

I have always imagined that on the Cross, He saw each one of us through the ages, like pages of time flashing before His eyes. Perhaps the Father showed Him each precious soul that would receive Him as Lord. Maybe He saw every man, woman, boy, and girl’s eyes and thought of being invited home into our hearts.

Home means different things to different people. But to most, it evokes a sense of comfort, wholeness, love, and acceptance. And when we look into the eyes of the Father at the end of our days, we will indeed be Home!

John 14:1-4 "Jesus: Don’t get lost in despair; believe in God, and keep believing in Me. 2 My Father’s home is designed to accommodate all of you. If there were not room for everyone, I would have told you that. I am going to make arrangements for your arrival. 3 I will be there to greet you personally and welcome you home, where we will be together. 4 You know where I am going and how to get there (Voice)."

Lord, when I look into Your eyes, I see Home, a promise of Love for today, tomorrow, and forever!

Revelation 21:3 "I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them (NLT)."
