Goats in the Buttercups
Goats in the Buttercups

"Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, to God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. ... (NIV)." Ephesians 1:1-8a

Two little goats,

Frolicked in the Buttercups,

In the tiny yellow flowers,

Eating and playing delightedly—

We could have watched them for hours.

The grasses and flowers in the field before us,

Were so tender and new,

Glistening with the morning’s raindrops,

Like fresh-fallen-dew.

As we watched their antics,

Running, jumping, in frivolous play,

We were reminded of God’s goodness,

And His provision everyday.

So “count your blessings,

Name them one by one”,

For the baby goats in the pasture,

Are thankful for all that He has done.

He has given them open spaces,

And beautiful flowers upon which to feed.

He is giving, caring, providing,

For each and every need.

These little ones give us a gentle lesson,

To pause and appreciate a little labor, a little fun ...

We are each blessed beyond all measure,

By God’s one and only Son.

The little goats in the pasture seemed quite content in their simple, yet beautiful environment. Sometimes we get so busy, we forget to notice how well God cares for us. Sometimes, we just need to count blessings, not problems, not illnesses, not difficulties, just good old-fashioned things-that-He-has-done-for-us. The ways that He is providing for us, keeping us safe, and making us feel loved.

Go, be like the little goats, frolic in the buttercups. He's got you. You’re safe to run and play! And while you are in the field, stop and smell the posies, okay, maybe not in the same pasture where the goats have been, those posies may be chewed. But seeing something beautiful in each day does change your perspective and helps you have a grateful heart! What are you thankful for today?

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17 NIV

Dear Lord, may we love and follow you, with joy and abandon, so that we are a blessing for your kingdom and a witness to those around us. Amen.
