Eyes filled with tears
Eyes filled with tears

Psalm 56:8-11 says, “You have seen me tossing and turning through the night. You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one in your book. 9 The very day I call for help, the tide of battle turns. My enemies flee! This one thing I know: God is for me! 10-11 I am trusting God—oh, praise his promises (TLB)!”

The Father saw the tears of Jesus and counted them as precious at Lazarus’ death, in the Garden of Gethsemane, and as He prayed over His Disciples and every follower who will ever call upon His name (John 17). He sees every tear that falls from our eyes. He shows us the same compassion, grace, mercy, and love that Jesus displayed in His ministry and on the Cross when He gave His life for us. And there’s coming a day—when every child of God will have every tear wiped from their eyes.

Revelation 21:4 is a promise to our souls: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away (HCSB).”

I love how this translation states, “will exist no longer.” Can you imagine it? Eternity in God’s presence will not contain any pain, no illness, no disease, no disappointment, no quarreling, no divorce, no heartache, no more burdens. Every tear will be gone! I hope this image fills your heart with peace. Even as I typed the words, I let out a joy-filled sigh!

Until then … Lord, may You use every tear that falls for some purpose. May we grieve for our sins that nailed You to the Cross. May we feel the weight of Your blood-like tears—pressing, surrendering to the Father’s Will—so that we can experience “new birth” and abundant life “in Christ.” And may we long  for Your return—with souls seeking to honor You so that we do not miss who You are—King of Kings and Lord of Lords—now and forevermore! Amen.
