Weekly Inspiration for 14-20 January 2023

There are so many reasons that we love living in Wisconsin … this is just one of them. During the Winter months, our area is a nesting ground for eagles. We enjoy going on a country drives to see if we can spot and photograph them. There is something majestic about the the flight of these great birds-of-prey. Their powerful movements and wingspan, is amazing. And we’ve noticed something—they are often found near sources of water. They are drawn to—often found near—rivers and lakes because they are wonderful sources for food/fishing. Here is one scouting the water for an early dinner.
Jesus knew where to “fish” for His Disciples. He knew where to look for willing hearts that would follow Him. He chose men who came from varied vocations and walks of life. He chose guys who were imperfect but were teachable. He chose folks with eagle-like spirits who desired to know Him, love and serve Him.He’s still looking for this kind of heart, today! He’s still our supreme example, Teacher, and model of strength and sovereignty.
“‘To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name.Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. … Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:25-26 & 28-31 NIV
Question: Are you feeding upon God’s Word, daily? Are you drawn to His Living Water as your source of strength? Are you relying on His Spirit to guide and teach you? Are you being lifted above life’s mediocrity by trusting in the One who is Creator, and Lord of All? Is God renewing you day-by-day to obey His Will?
We cannot learn to soar like an eagle, unless we’ve learned to depend upon the One who fashioned such a creature. It’s under His wings that we can rest. It’s only by His love, that we are propelled to follow and serve Him, and to share the Good News as His Disciple.
