Sun Dials

We found two different types of sun dials in two different garden areas. One is old-fashioned in its styling. The other, is more modern in its design. Yet both do exactly what they’re supposed to do—they record the hour of the day via the shadow of the sun. They are a version of telling-time in an ancient, artistic way.
Many people are asking whether we are in “end times.” Truthfully, only God knows. In fact, Matthew 24:26 tells us this: “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son—except the Father only.” (HCSB) So maybe … instead of worrying about where we are in the sun-dial perspective of our days—we should live each one with an eye toward loving and serving the Lord.
How might this affect what you do—in the light, in the shadows? Would it change any place that you go? Anything you do, or view? Would it guide you to take any new steps of faith? Offer forgiveness? Offer the hand of friendship? Help someone succeed? I found these questions of God’s Spirit to be thought provoking and worth conscience checking.
Sun dials have always fascinated me from the time I was a kid. They are fairly simple in their conception. They are the earliest time-keeping device on record. Historians do not know for certain who created the first sun dial, but they were discovered around 1500BC.
Dear Lord, I thank You for this day, this moment in my life. I thank You that You are the Light of my soul. I pray that You would lead my steps and that I would live in the shadow of Your love and grace. And no matter where we are in the end-time-continuum, I want to leave a mark for Your kingdom. Amen.
The sun dial makes a shadow via the sun. May our lives demonstrate that we follow Christ to leave His love upon our life and times.
