The Cross in the Cornfield

We had passed this Cross on a Saturday while visiting our families in PA. And frankly, I regretted that we had not stopped in order to capture the image. It stayed in my head for a few weeks … and though I couldn’t remember its exact location, we decided to keep a lookout for it on our way home to VA another day. When we found it a second time, naturally, I could not  pass it by.

A cross in the cornfield

Cross at the cornfield,

You captured my heart,

Draped in purple majesty,

With the message of love to impart …

There was something beautiful,

In finding you, in this field of green.

It was not just my eyes,

But my soul, that also took in the scene.

Simplicity met splendor,

Under a canopy of blue,

With a hill set behind it,

And petunias at your base, in every hue.

It reminded me of mercy,

Of God’s tender love and care.

I am grateful for the 2nd chance,

To encounter My Savior there.

I always love it when Jesus brings us back to something in His Word, or a special location, or speaks something into our heart, multiple times. But I am finding that if He asks me to do something, I am trying to act and obey on the first hearing! I try not to make Him repeat Himself!

I was blessed to see this image twice; It touched my heart. But if we want to obey God—I think we do well—to hear and follow and act—at His first call. For this is how we love Him. And often, how we show and share His love with others. This Cross was in an unexpected place, displaying a reminder of His care and goodness. May we be likewise, an instrument of love, wherever we travel, or find ourselves planted, to bring Him glory!

Please look up and read: John 13:34, John 14:23, Deuteronomy 5:23, John 15:16, Matthew 16:24-26, Romans 12:1, and Psalm 128:1
