I saw a shooting star,
In the sky tonight.
It hung there,
Pure, like holy light.
It was suspended,
In the barren limbs,
Swaying with wishes,
That I raised,
Only unto Him.
Oh, how it shone.
How it glistened in the dark.
How it rose,
Raising my eyes,
Higher and higher,
To loftier heights,
Until dreams became prayers,
And I felt His love,
On this wintery,
Starlit eve.
It was enough,
To make anyone,
—Behold,
—Believe!
May every shooting star remind us to dream and to hold fast to our hope in Jesus. May we look upward and wish—not with a flight of fancy—but with prayers that touch heaven. And may we see in this season not simply the radiance of holiday lights aglow but the essence of His Spirit, alive.
“To Him who made the great lights, for His faithfulness is everlasting: 8 the sun to rule by day, for His faithfulness is everlasting, 9 the moon and stars to rule by night, for His faithfulness is everlasting.” Psalm 136:7-9 (NASB)
Jesus is the Morning Star, rising in our hearts to shine all year through.
Isaiah 40:26, Matthew 2:2, Revelation 22:16, Psalm 148:3-6, Daniel 12:3
Dear Lord, I find Winter to be a lonely time, but I will try this Winter to see something beautiful, interesting, or unique in every day. Please help me to be aware of snow as a covering of grace, the sound of the wind as Your Spirit, alive, and the cold days as a sign that You want me to draw nearer to Your heart. Amen.
