“Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and branches of trees with thick branches and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.” Leviticus 23:40 NASB

Dear Lord, this imagery is so rich and full in defining joy to my heart. The setting is a feast-time celebration that will last for one week. The people were instructed to select and cut flora and fauna from their gardens and orchards, then use it as a way of expressing praise to You. I found this to be beautiful. The scene is reminiscent of Your Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem (John 12:13). And Jesus, I may not be going out today and cutting palm branches, but in my mind, I am joining in with this type of adoration unto You, unto Your throne, to give You all the glory. Amen.

When was the last time you gave God such intentional worship and adoration? When was the last time you lifted your hands, like palm branches, as a sign of your praise? Have you ever spent one week with a focus on gratitude toward our good and loving God?

This is a Sample Entry from How Does Your Garden Grow? Devotional. This devotional explores how you can let God cultivate the 9 Fruits of the Spirit within you for a flourishing life in Christ. Click here for a detailed book description, a look inside, and more!
