City, Country, Praise

“Come into his city with songs of thanksgiving. Come into his courtyards with songs of praise. Thank him, and praise his name (ICB).” Psalms 100:4
I’m a little bit city,
I’m a little bit country,
But I’m one—
Hundred percent, praise.
We've been to New Orleans and Kansas City,
Honolulu, New York, and Indianapolis;
Portland, Denver, San Diego, Richmond,
Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, and Minneapolis.
We've been to Omaha, Coeur d’Alene, Dayton,
Spokane, Kauai, and Albuquerque;
Biloxi, Bethlehem, Breckenridge,
Bangor, Asheville, and Ocean City.
But in every location,
No matter where we have traveled, or where we’ve lived,
I have always found reasons to be grateful,
And reasons, my praise, to give.
For I can see God in the city,
In the lights that line the bridges and the streets,
I can see Him on the faces …
In art, the theater, hear Him in its throbbing beat.
I can find Him in the country,
When I behold a sunset in a panoramic view.
See the wildness of nature,
God’s majestic splendor always shows me something new.
In every day, in every season,
In the city or in the countryside,
I find I gratefully and humbly bow,
In His presence I will always abide.
I’m a little bit city,
I’m a little country,
But I hope you are with me,
In offering Him your praise!
Whether you are in the city, in the country, in the courtyard, or standing in His presence, we are to give God our praise. We are to give Him the offering of our thanks. For us, that comes easy. We have been blessed to live in the country and in the city, and our personalities are a little of both. We enjoy the scenery and quiet of the country, as well as some of the city's lights and offerings. But we always seek the presence of God. No matter where we travel, He is with us, because He is our Home! On earth, as it will be in heaven.
A Biblical Meditation on the Nearness of God:
Psalm 23:6, 27:4, 28: 7, and 145:18, Nehemiah 9:31, 1 Corinthians 3:16, and Zephaniah 3:17
Dear Lord, thank You for these promises of Your presence and nearness. These cover wherever I live, be it city, country, or in-between. These Scriptures cover every circumstance and every breath from birth to our final exhale on earth. And they give me assurance that, ever, always, I am in Your watchful care and keeping. I praise You, O Lord! Amen.
