Prone to Praise

It was on a Sunday morning,
That I captured this scene:
A baby bunny, rested,
In the pasture, green,
—Of our apple tree.
He lounged in the shade,
Reclined, as if he didn’t have a care.
He seemed to be “keeping the Sabbath,”
On this day,
So bright and fair;
And I paused, too,
To worship, Thee.
For in this peaceful pose,
In his fully prone state,
He was not worried or anxious,
By my presence at the gate—
In fact, he lay, tranquilly,
As if this moment,
Was a gift of praise.
And my soul joined him,
To behold, You, Jesus;
I’ll gladly do so,
For all of my days!
No matter where we find ourselves this Sabbath—may we share a little of this rabbit’s demonstrated pose; take a little time to rest, be prone to praise, and behold our pasture as the place of God’s design. Because reclining in God’s presence reduces anxiety. It also changes our positioning—from focusing on our circumstances, to elevating our eyes onto God’s gifts—even the shades of His grace and loving-kindness. And setting one day a week apart from the rest, restores us, in body, mind and soul.
A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day. “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!” Psalm 92:1-5 NIV
