Pause to Know Peace

We loved finding these Adirondack-chairs all lined up in a row, along the edge of this lake. Somehow, their vibrant colors screamed “summer vacation.” This, along with the tranquility of the water, evoked a sense of peace. As I snapped this photo, I thought this scene was a good reminder to cherish a “pause” now and again, to sit down and really take in our surroundings, God’s creation, the sights and sounds, and the message of His love in every season.
I also loved how the chairs seemed to invite us into the space. Come and rest. Come enjoy the view, the breeze, the birdsong. That’s exactly what Psalm 46:10 means to convey to our souls: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Even at the water’s edge, we can absorb God’s presence. We can see His existence and hear HIs evidentiary truths. For all that He’s made points toward His glory, His majesty, His holiness. And His Word always confirms—that if we will still ourselves—He’ll make Himself known.
Dear Lord, thank You for simple, yet lovely spots like this, that encourage our minds and bodies to stop and rest for a few moments. Thank You, even more, for Your Word that brings peace by simply opening it and communing with You. And thank You for creation, which seems to bring both together in perfect harmony, to speak Your message of love to our hearts. Teach us to listen and then to respond with exultation. For You are worthy to be praised! Amen.
Stillness with the Savior will always help us savor Who Jesus is—so that we can know something of His nature, Word or character—in order to exalt Him (give Him praise) and exalt Him (live with a sense of worship, daily!)
