In Luke 12:27-28 (NLT), Jesus says this: “Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?”

One of the loveliest things about Spring and Summer is watching how the earth comes to life. From the first daffodil to the later appearance of the iris, to the roses and then the lilies in bloom—God is about creating beauty. And I love that from the first bulb as it pushes forth from Winter’s cocoon till the leaves and mums begin to bring forth rich colors in the Fall—each week brings new shades to express His glory.
So even though one type of flower fades (daily or weekly) the Lord replaces it—with another kind, another color, and another scent. This is the kind of God we are privileged to serve: all-knowing, everlasting, constantly moving, breathing, causing renewal upon the earth, and within our hearts.
Let His love transform you—as these months of His care and faithfulness clearly display. Let Jesus bring out shades of His character and deepen your roots of faith. For as one season turns into another—Spring to Summer, Summer to Autumn—He is changing, molding, and growing us as well.
It never ceases to amaze me just how lovely the lilies are … they always leave me in awe … of their Creator. The same One Who makes and changes them—does the same—in you and me. This should give us great encouragement and hope. Oh Lord, may You, be praised!
Look to the lilies because you cannot help but see the beauty of our God.
P.S. Did you notice on the right, there is one area—browning, drying? Jesus uses a like process in us, to remove sin and bad habits, and to fill us—with Living Water and His dear Spirit daily.
Why do you think that we are encouraged to look at the “lilies of the field” in reference to how God clothes His creation?
