What it Becomes

Weekly inspiration for the week of 3-9 September 2022
I found this beautiful hibiscus in our neighborhood. I loved the shading from palest to darkest pink. I loved how its petals resembled a dancer’s skirt in motion. And I also loved what “it became” after the bloom was done—a perfect 5-pointed star.
Even as the flowers of Summer are fading, I treasure watching how they change. I enjoy watching their shapes and transformations as one season overtakes the next. And I found this specimen to be have a loveliness in both poses.
Dear Lord, as You take and mold my life, help me to see, not just change but growth. Help me to be transformed into a closer reflection of Your image. And like the hibiscus goes from being bright and carefully shaded and turns into a more abstract design—help me trust Your hand to the shaping of my mind, heart and soul. Amen.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”
Romans 12:1-2 MSG
God watches how we respond to change. And He is more interested in the core of who we are—who we become—than anything that is external in our lives.
