Pausing can teach us the lessons of God's faithfulness, care, protection, and presence.
The "gift of the Pause"

We were watching a sermon on-line, but wanted to stop the video for a moment. We had the option to allow it to continue to play, or to pause it right where we were. We paused the program, got our cup of coffee, and immediately returned to the lesson being taught. It was so nice to be able to do so.

Ever see the times when God allows you to “pause,” as a gift, straight from His throne?

  • He may stop us—so that we see something wonderful, unexpected, or intricate in His creation.

  • He may ask us to wait—for something we desire, or need, or want in order to fulfill His Will.

  • He may leave us in place/space, so that we learn how much we need, Him.

  • He may whisper to our soul, to pause, at a traffic light or intersection, so that we see His protection.

  • He may pause certain words or thoughts from exiting our lips.

  • He may halt us from repeating generational patterns, by giving our lives new Godly examples.

  • He may show us the necessity of taking of a pause, one day a week as a Sabbath-rest.

  • He may teach us that meeting with Him, daily, is a form of pausing in His presence, in order to gain strength, love, hope, peace and joy.

Dear Lord, all of the instances above, are ways that You have taught me, the “gift of the Pause.” In each, I’ve witnessed something of Your care, faithfulness, protection, or a sense of Your nearness. You’ve taught me how precious it is to use my time with You, of meditation, as a method of “pausing”—a source of refreshment for the activities and demands of every day. And it’s in this space, that I have learned to wait on You, Your timing, and Your alignment of my steps. Amen.

Next time you push “pause” on your TV, a video, a sermon, etc.—take a moment to commune with the Lord, too. You just may find, that He was getting your attention. Then, stop, look and listen, for His voice. For the gift of pausing—teaches us to notice Him. And noticing how God is present, teaches us to praise!

When has God “paused” you in your life—to guide you, to protect you, or to ask you to wait for His timing?
