Below are some of the everyday sounds of Summer:

—Birds, chirping, greeting the new day

—Children at play, laughing, and squealing with delight

—Wind chimes, playing a melody, that echos on the breeze

—The cicada’s song that rises, in harmony, from the trees

—The ebb and flow of the waves, as they kiss the sand

—The buzz of the bees from a wildflower meadow

—Lyrical notes from the ice cream truck, drawing a crowd, as it circles the neighborhood

Notice anything? Each, is a version of music. Whether it is a creature/creation of God’s design or a man-made object—each, produces a sound that is synonymous with Summer. Each one, reminds us of joy and happiness. What memory does Summer evoke of music, joy, or praise in your heart?

Sounds of Summer—rise and fall, all around us, but praise rises to heaven connecting our hearts with a sense of joy. Not the fleeting emotion of happiness, which can ebb and flow, but with a steadfast awareness that God is with us—in fact singing over us—always.

“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 KJV

Here are a few spots to meditate on the theme of praise: Psalm 100:1-2, Psalm 98:4-6, Habakkuk 3:18, Nehemiah 8:10, Colossians 3:16
