Seaweed at the beach
Seaweed at the beach

Seaweed,

Danced,

To the rhythm,

Of the tide,

It grew out of the sand,

To unfurl,

In patterns,

—Ever-changing.

With color,

And dimension,

It gave life,

To the sea.

And as we walked,

Along the shore,

It moved,

In pace with our steps,

Like moving art.

And I was captivated,

By the thought,

That God even decorated,

The ocean floor.

How amazing,

is He,

To touch every surface,

Of land,

Of wave?

This is a God,

To be admired,

To be worshiped,

To be adored.

For He is beautiful,

Indeed!

It may seem like only a simple thing—seaweed. You’ve probably seen it before. So have we. Yet on this day, the clarity of the water, the mix of colors and patterns that it made as the tide washed in and out—made it appear lovely.

I can’t help but be in awe of the God of the Universe who takes time to color, decorate, create, and curate—all of Earth’s fascinating wonders—great and small. And when we notice them, I think He takes delight when we also see Him, as Creator, Maker, the Author of all life.

The dance of seaweed may not be a miracle to you. That’s okay. But to me, it means that God is moving, shaping—making all things new—all the time. And for that, I’m grateful because that includes the heart of everyone who calls Him Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18 says: “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (ESV).”

Ephesians 4:24 “And to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (ESV).”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (ESV).”

Psalm 148 “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from heaven, you that live in the heights above. 2 Praise him, all his angels, all his heavenly armies. 3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, shining stars. 4 Praise him, highest heavens, and the waters above the sky. 5 Let them all praise the name of the Lord! He commanded, and they were created; 6  by his command they were fixed in their places forever, and they cannot disobey. 7 Praise the Lord from the earth, sea monsters and all ocean depths; 8  lightning and hail, snow and clouds, strong winds that obey his command. 9 Praise him, hills and mountains, fruit trees and forests; 10  all animals, tame and wild, reptiles and birds. 11 Praise him, kings and all peoples, princes and all other rulers; 12 young women and young men, old people and children too. 13 Let them all praise the name of the Lord! His name is greater than all others; his glory is above earth and heaven. 14 He made his nation strong so that all his people praise him—the people of Israel, so dear to him. Praise the Lord (GNT)!”
