Molded Sand Castles

This is the scene that we can upon one day at the shore—molded sand castles. They had been carefully hand-crafted, lined up just so. They had been laid out with precision. A moat had been created as if to divide the “kingdoms”. Do you see the story as it’s illustrated?
I wonder if this is sometimes how our lives look to the Lord? Do we sometimes make plans? Set up our idea of how things are to go? How our steps should be aligned? School, job, marriage, kids, house, retirement, etc.? Or do parents sometimes want to “mold” their children’s lives—for good to follow Christ—or for their own selfish pride?
Do you notice that the the first two areas of sand castles, got wet? Hit by the tide? Rearranged? Reshaped? Ever happen in your life? Sometimes it’s the loss of a loved one(s), illness, an unexpected accident … a wave hits. And our careful plans—even perhaps what we know to be God’s Will—is suddenly put on hold or altered. And then, how do we react?
Molded sand castles were an interesting “find” along the water’s edge. They were an interesting lesson—for asking the Lord to direct our steps, and surrendering our wishes to His Will. They show us whether we are trusting—changes, disappointments, the things that He is moving, shaping, rearranging—to His sovereign care, or not. And they also show us why we need to build our faith on the sure foundation of Jesus—not on the shifting sand—of opinion, world view or current culture.
