Making a Way

A finch family made a way to build a nest in a less-than-perfect location.

Last year, a pair of finches built a nest on the top of a floral arrangement I had made on our front porch. This year, I’ve placed one of these same types of sprays on our back deck. While the front porch is covered, the back deck is not. So what did the birds do? They built their cozy home in between the house siding and the arrangement. This has proven to be a secure, safe spot. It has become a place of refuge for these fledglings to be fed, grow, and mature.

The parents are faithful protectors and excellent providers for their young. It’s been so sweet to witness them as guardians. If we or our cat, Tiger Lily, go near (or open the back door to let in some breeze), they are there to greet us with a tune.

As I was thinking of the scene they depicted, one word popped into my mind—adaptability. The finches wanted to make a nest. They remembered our home as a safe place from last year and returned here. Yet, when the environment was different, they found a way.

Do you know that Jesus is here for you in these same capacities? He’s available to be Your Guardian. He’s near you to be Your Way-Maker. Whether it’s to offer you His love, grace, and the gift of Salvation, meet you right where you are, help you find a place to live or a job, or meet your every need … He is the One you can trust and turn to.

So question: What are you trying to build on your own? Question: Do you remember that He’s got answers and solutions to your every situation if you call upon Him? Question: Are you seeking His presence daily to be fed? To grow? And to mature in your faith and love for Him?

We can learn so much from watching birds, including some spiritual truths of the Bible.
