Like Sunshine

I had opened our back sliding door, which has a screen in place for Tiger Lily. The morning was cool, crisp, delightful. The breeze wafted into our kitchen and over the little bench which we place just so, for her observance of the deck and side yard. Here, she surveys the birds, bunnies, and all manner of wildlife that come to make her acquaintance.

A little while later, I fed her breakfast, her adored canned food. As I gathered her close for a hug and a kiss, I noticed that she smelled “like sunshine.” You know the scent? For me, it brought back a childhood memory of my mom doing laundry and hanging sheets or clothing out on the clothesline to air-dry. And oh, how sweet the linens were to bring back into the house, into our rooms.

As we absorb God’s Word, His Spirit, His love, and His mercy, I wonder if we smell a little like sunshine? I go on to imagine that our souls may even emanate something of the Son’s glow. Whimsy? Perhaps. But if Tiger Lily can so quickly pick up the scent of freshness from the morning’s air, so too, must God’s grace, fragrance our lives invisibly and visibly, with enveloping faith.

Dear Lord, may a sunshiny sweetness reach Your throne because I’ve been bathed in Your presence, today. And may Your love permeate everything that I do and everywhere that I go, because Your Son is able to shine, in and through me, I pray. Amen.

“For the Lord God is brighter than the brilliance of a sunrise! Wrapping himself around me like a shield, he is so generous with his gifts of grace and glory. Those who walk along his paths with integrity will never lack one thing they need, for he provides it all!” Psalm 84:11 TPT
