Internal Light Shining

Christmas Candle-light service

The interior of the sanctuary had been darkened completely. Then, the auditorium was lit, only enough for the ushers to safely begin the procession of the candle’s glow. From one single flame, the room came alive. Each person touched their wick to the next, until these simple white candles seemed to radiate, as one internal light, shining. As we rose to our feet and began to praise, it was surely a lovely demonstration of—out of darkness—comes hope, comes light, comes the Son.

Internal light was created,

From a single candle’s flame.

Within these walls,

—Darkness,

Fought, but could not remain.

The shadows were lifted,

As each wick was shared.

And the presence of His Spirit,

Was soon visible, there.

Internal light is created,

From a single whisper to the soul.

Within the heart, God speaks,

Offering grace,

To make us whole.

The shadows are lifted,

And Jesus removes our scarlet stain.

In His eyes, we’re made righteous,

Illuminated, born-again.

“For God, who said, ‘Light shall shine out of darkness,’ is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6 NASB

Internal light, shone within this room, from the space of a veil of shadows. With just one spark, a holy glow filled every corner. Internal light, shines from our soul, when we invite Jesus to be our Lord and the Light within us. He becomes our source of hope, peace, and joy. Like a flame, He is alive, to shine, as we simply share His love with our neighbor, with our world.
