I Will Show You Great and Mighty Things

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knows not.” Jeremiah 33:3 KJV

Father God, I love that this verse begins with an invitation. The setting of the scene—call—(cry out, whisper, bring your praise, your lament, your joy, your heart’s greatest need or delight) unto Me (Your Physician, the Great I AM, Your Healer, Comforter, Provider, Rock, and Refuge). And the Lord will “What?” “Answer.” Not let us hang, not turn away! Not only that, Lord, but You promise to teach us, to tell us Your inside scoop—on how to live, love, and cope in this world. You give us insights into Your Word and kingdom ways and thinking—which we will never glean alone. 

It’s not Your desire to be some far-off God. Instead, You gave Your life for us, so we will revere You—and come to You like a child—running, willingly, openly, often—to be with You in an easy companionship like that of Abba Daddy. Oh God, let us call and bow; let us come every day to worship and hang onto Your every Word. And show us Who You are so we can imitate, at least in part, Your loving-kindness to others. Amen. 

If God becomes our first call, He’ll always answer us with more than we expect.
