2 P&P Weekly Blog for the week of 6-12 May 2023

Last year, we were treated to this scene outside our front door. A robin built her nest in my floral arrangement. I loved how cozy she appeared: all snuggled in the confines as she protected her precious eggs.

Notice all the materials the robin used to build the home for her eggs!

I found her plumage interestingly “painted” by God’s hand. And recently, as Doug and I were reminiscing and hopeful that she would return this year, we thought about an interesting fact: birds create their nests from “wintery leftovers.” Think about it. They construct these woven pieces of artistry from twigs, lichen, pieces of debris, and dried plant matter. Ours even included a little plastic for some extra rain protection. We had to smile at that addition! Birds use what they find to make an insulated home for their young.

So what are the spiritual lessons? Sometimes we’re impatient with how God designs certain aspects of our lives. We think it should be perfectly symmetrical, warm, and cozy. We hope that living in the center of His Will means that we’ll be sitting pretty. Yet, this robin had to work to fashion her masterpiece. She had to gather. She used what she had with God’s instinctive wisdom. And she used things from the past season to build something for the future.

How can we apply these to our own lives? 1) God is always working in our lives and circumstances. 2) Keep trusting Him—no matter how things look or feel. 3) Work unto the Lord—wholeheartedly—with joy and a thankful spirit. 4) Gather near to Him by reading His Word. 5) Ask Him for daily wisdom and guidance. 6) Do what you know to be obedient. And 7) Learn from each season in your life, believing that the Lord is making you stronger, birthing new dreams, and building your faith so that you soar!

Here’s some Biblical Building Material: 1) Philippians 1:6, 2) Proverbs 3:5-6, 3) Colossians 3:17 & 23, 4) Joshua 1:8, 5) Matthew 7:7-8, 6) John 14:15 & 21, 7) Ecclesiastes 3:1, Romans 8:28, & 1 Peter 1:8-9.

Dear Lord, thank You for teaching us through Your Word, through Your wondrous creations. Help us not only to see Your tremendous—but also Your miniature marvels for what they are—taking the old to create new life! (2 Corinthians 5:17). Amen.

Do not fear the process of what God is creating—even if He chooses something from a past season to form the next. Often, He’s simply using everything to put you in the center of His (nest—His hands) and, thus, His perfect Will.
