The last of 5 baby finches preparing to leave the nest!
The last of 5 baby finches preparing to leave the nest!

Pictured is the fifth (of 5) baby finches preparing for takeoff. I caught it as it stepped onto the nest’s edge, explored for a few seconds, then, whoosh, into the nearby tree where its mom and dad were waiting. Capturing this moment filled my heart with joy at their success—but left me already missing their presence outside the front window. Sound familiar?

We’ve had the pleasure of watching God’s miraculous birth cycle unfold before our eyes. From eggs—being dropped one at a time—to all five hatching successfully (which is often unlikely), it’s been a blessed season, indeed. We’ve loved having a front-row seat during this process of growth, feeding, nurturing, and teaching.

I love how it mirrors God’s hand in all of creation—from first to last breath—whether creature or human. I treasure how this scene has displayed the Lord's faithfulness. And how He’s cared for these little ones every day.

He has an even greater love for you and me. He’s our cheerleader for every accomplishment in our lives. The Lord is our Teacher, instructing us via His Word, Spirit, and voice. He is our Advocate, standing at the right hand of God to intercede on our behalf. And He has a plan for our journey with every step we take from infancy to maturity (age and in faith).

Dear Lord, we often have a number of Graduation ceremonies in our lives—from high school to college, to achievements in our work life, to the ways that You’re maturing us in our faith. But when I stand face to face with You, it will be my ultimate Graduation Day. Then I will know and be fully known. Then I will bow before You, serve You, and bring You glory perfectly. But until then, may every step of the journey be marked by my resembling the birds: 1) to trust You to provide for my needs. 2) to rely on You to teach me day by day. 3) by obeying Your Word and Spirit’s direction. 4) by testing my wings of faith to grow in Your grace and courage. And 5) to have a ready song of praise as I move about from place to place. Amen.

Of note? Birds are small in stature but have a mighty voice of praise. In other words, they share openly—about His provision, protection, and faithful care—then they take a leap and proclaim His goodness for all their days!
