Sparrows perched in the tops of our Cyprus trees.
Sparrows perched in the tops of our Cyprus trees.

We have many sparrows that dwell near our home. It could be because we have a birdhouse outside the door that draws them, or it could be our feeder out back. (Think these could be a few reasons? Haha.) Anyway, one morning, we were preparing to leave for a day trip when they came to greet us as they often do. They landed in these Cyprus trees on one side of the driveway and in bushes that line the other. But what did I notice? They love to choose the highest place for their perch.

They love to survey their surroundings. Birds like to see what’s going on around them. And they sing from these perches as if the corridors of heaven open for their praise.

Dear Lord, I love to see how You’re moving and shaping my circumstances from every angle. Help me see the needs around me so I can be Your servant daily. And help me have a spirit of gratitude in my heart so that praise is constant and as natural as from Your delightful creatures, the birds, I pray. Amen.

Sometimes, we view life only from our vantage point. We must remember that the Lord has a 360-degree perspective and is always working on the whole picture of our lives. Draw close to Him today. Lift Your focus from the earthly _________ onto something in His Word or His beautiful world that gives you an appreciation of His love and care. Then, express your thankfulness—in writing (journaling), through art, or prayer unto HIs throne. And watch your heart form its own song of praise unto our Creator.

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 NIV

Praise can only rise from us—if Jesus is our highest place—of focus, love, and trust.
