Countryside vista with cornfield rows

There was beauty in the lush view of the countryside, especially after many weeks without rain. To see the hills and plains in vibrant hues again, with thriving crops, made us thankful for God’s faithful care of the earth and its inhabitants. And to see the corn lined up in perfect rows made the scene almost artful in its presentation as the blue sky contrasted with the road and the grass and grain.

Lord, thank You for caring for all of creation—fields, forests, mountains, and the valleys You fill with varied wildflowers. Thank You for supplying us with our daily bread—sustaining our lives—and for the dear comfort of Your Word, which nourishes our souls. Please help us grow and stand tall like this grain to yield seed that is sown. And to be filled with Your Spirit in and out of season to bring You glory, we pray. Amen.

“You shall therefore keep the whole commandment that I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and take possession of the land that you are going over to possess, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey. For the land that you are entering to take possession of it is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated it, like a garden of vegetables. … “And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14 he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.” Deuteronomy 11: 8-15 ESV

I love how the Lord uses creation imagery to convey the idea of His blessing for keeping His commands. May it be evident that we are growing, becoming, and sowing seeds with each passing year so that we are like grain turning to glory unto You, O Lord.
