We had gone on a day trip when we came upon this unusual sight. Garland wrapped around the circumference of this graveyard. Red velvet ribbons decorated each greenery swag. Why did this image strike me? Because, to my heart, this intentional attention felt like love bestowed upon those who will honor and remember their loved ones. Do you see what I mean? I loved how the Spirit helped me pause to see this scene in this way.

I had never seen garland decorate a cemetery in this way before, and I could only imagine how this special touch would make you feel if your family members were buried here. Knowing that someone cared enough and took the time to share such a gesture is precious. Loving gestures such as this bring comfort and encouragement to those who are hurting and grieving.
The winter months are sometimes the most difficult to get through when folks have faced loss. A kind word, a listening ear, or simply being present—are often the most appreciated of all the things we can offer. Any way that we can show that we care—demonstrates the love of Jesus—to others. And to me, somehow (though I don’t know anyone buried in this cemetery), this loving embrace touched my soul one winter day as I remembered those who have gone on before us—to meet our Lord. It brought me comfort to know that care was given and received within the confines of this space.
Dear Lord, thank You for being the One Who comforts us in our times of loss and grief. Thank You for being our Rock and Refuge and Shelter. You know our every need and long to give us peace and hope for eternity in Your presence. But to have this promise, we must belong to You and be called sons/daughters. Jesus, thank You for dying for our sins, conquering the grave, and rising again so that we can have abundant life. Thank You for embracing us with love that is everlasting, infinite, and eternal. Let these truths wrap around our hearts to draw us near; we pray. Amen.
I hope you’ll Pause in these Promises of our Lord and Savior: Psalm 34:18, Psalm 147:3, Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 94:19, 2 Corinthians 1:4, 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, Revelation 21:4
