A Design of Pieces

Mosaic designs have been popping up in our neighborhood in a variety of places, in myriad designs. They have graced windows, sidewalks, and here, paver-blocks. Well, one evening we caught little artists at work. And what did I find interesting? Even though they worked with chalk as their medium and concrete as their canvas—they used painter’s tape—to craft their designs. I had to smile as they worked with such precision. And what a good job they did, right?

Notice how each block is different, just as if it were tile being laid? See how the kids knew to rotate and change the placement of the colors to add interest? These would make any home stand-out with a sense of style.

How has God gifted you? With what is He whispering to your soul—that He’s been carefully crafting in your heart? How is He changing you, in order to bring about His character more vividly? And what stepping-stones is He putting in place, to get you to move forward, to follow His Will?

See, just as these kids knew to use tape to keep their drawings clean, God is not hiding His Will or ways from us. In fact, in giving us His Spirit, He’s drawing us unto Himself like an invitation. Come, with a child-like faith. Then let His love embrace you, until what He’s placed on the inside, displays this type of craftsmanship, to give Him glory in your outside world.

Mosaic designs are made of pieces, yet their parts are what create the whole. God uses all of us—everything that touches us—if we surrender the design to His hands. It’s in trusting Him, that He guides us, step by step, to follow where He leads.
