In the Shade of the Limbs

Under the limbs of this big 'ole tree,
With its arms stretched toward heaven,
On a bench, in its shade as tears flowed,
I let it all go, set it free!
I gave Him the weight of my pain,
And the pain, that I carry for others,
The weariness of giving and caring, and
I simply asked God, to hold me,
To take me in the embrace of His arms,
And shelter my heart for a moment!
Like the towering tree before me,
I needed to feel His strength and power.
This tree has stood fast for generations,
And by His grace, I will too;
To do, to give, to breathe, to obey.
When I think I have nothing left to give,
He gives me what I need.
Like the towering tree He is steadfast,
He stands faithful in the strongest of winds.
The elements do not touch Him,
I trust Him in this moment, and beyond.
My soul is at rest here,
In the shade of this big ‘ole tree,
Because I met Jesus here,
And He sustained me, with peace,
To do, to give, to care, to breathe, to obey.
Lord, I bring You my praise!
John 15:5a (NIV) “I am the vine, and you are the branches.”
He met me today, under the mightiest and most powerful tree in our neighborhood. But He will meet you wherever you are. And He'll give you rest, peace, and the strength, to give to others! Because sometimes, we are the limbs that connect, and give shelter; we are the shade, showing the love of God, and standing with those who feel the winds of trial.
